Our Project

executive order 9066

In collaboration with the Monterey Peninsula Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League , Monterey Public Library is pleased to present Searching for Democracy: California Reads.  The whole community is reading Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston. Then between now and May we will offer lectures, discussions, and exhibits about the Japanese American internment during World War II and its effect on democracy then and in the 21st century.  California Reads programs are made possible with support from Cal Humanities in partnership with the California Center for the Book.
